Unfortunately, urinary tract problems are all too common in cats. Cats evolved as desert animals, so they don’t have a strong instinctive drive to drink water. This can result in the accumulation of minerals in the bladder and urethra, which may lead to the formation of crystals or stones.

Here are some of the warning signs of which you need to be aware:

• Frequent urination
• Urination in places other than the litter box
• Straining to urinate
• Bloody urination

There is evidence to suggest that stress can be one of the primary causes of Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD). Stress can lead to the release of hormones that constrict the muscles of the lower urinary tract. Changes in the household routine, a new companion animal in the home, changes in weather and lack of attention can all lead to increased stress in cats. Be as in-tune with your cat as possible, and take steps to decrease or eliminate stressors in his or her life.

Using a continuous water fountain can attract the attention of cats, encouraging them to drink more. Using canned foods that contain water from biological sources will help to increase the amount of fluid intake.

By taking measures now, you may be able to support your cat's urinary health, helping him or her to live a longer, healthier life.

With hundreds of research studies supporting the health benefits of Omega-3's, using fish oil dietary supplements is a wise choice for those who wish to lead healthier lives. That’s why Life's Abandance is now offering Sealogix Omega-3 Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil, an ultra-concentrated, ultra-purified fish oil that is independently tested for overall quality. Life's Abandance uses state-of-the-art processing to remove impurities and to provide you with a fish oil supplement that is safe and effective. Due to its superior quality and high concentration of nutrients, Sealogix is an exceptional value compared to other market brands.

Increasing your dietary intake of Omega-3’s from fish oil may result in a variety of vital health benefits, like helping to maintain normal cholesterol levels and promoting heart health, brain function, healthy immunity and joint movement, memory and mental health, and the reduction of cellular inflammation*. Formulated to provide an optimal level of essential fatty acids, Sealogix Omega-3 Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil may be one of the most efficient and cost-effective methods for obtaining the essential fatty acids your body requires.

Although there is no true formula for feline water intake, we do know that cats generally will not consume enough water on their own to sustain organ functioning for a long and healthy life. This is because cats evolved as desert animals, so their sense of thirst is not nearly as acute as that of other mammals. In fact, many cats will only drink an average of two milliliters of water for every gram of dry food eaten.

Based on the physiology and evolution of the cat, we recommend adding a high quality canned food to the diet to ensure that they get enough water. Water is not only necessary for a healthy urinary tract – the body requires water to metabolize food and for all other chemical processes occurring on a cellular level.

Instinctive Choice
is a revolutionary premium canned food that is scientifically-formulated to provide your cat with a meal that is similar in nutrition and moisture to how felines feed in the wild. This unique formula contains fresh, highly digestible, human-quality proteins from organic chicken, turkey, chicken liver and shrimp. Instinctive Choice contains nutrient rich water or “biological water,” which contains nutritional components found in meats and chicken broth. This allows your cat to obtain moisture closer to the way a cat in the wild would get it. Further, we’ve included couch grass, which contains many nutrients that help support a healthy urinary tract.

Instinctive Choice also contains added Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, chelated minerals, taurine, l-carnitine, vitamin E and a superior blend of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to help contribute to a healthy daily diet.

Not only that, it also has a savory taste that your kitten or cat will love. The organic chicken, turkey, succulent shrimp and chicken liver are cooked in a delicious broth that is seasoned with a little bit of rosemary.

Now you can finally give your cat what he or she truly craves, with the water content they require!

Most research facilities still perform tests on animals. These animals are obtained through “dealers” that are classified as either Class A or Class B. Class A dealers breed animals solely for the purpose of testing. Class B dealers deliver animals acquired from “random sources”; sources which can include adoptions from animal shelters, responding to “free to good home” ads, from capturing strays … even from kidnapping dogs and cats from their homes.

At present, both the U.S. House and Senate are considering legislation to help further the protections afforded companion animals in the U.S. The proposed bipartisan legislation would prohibit Class B dealers from selling animals to laboratories, to help ensure that cats and dogs used for research are not obtained through fraudulent practices or theft.

Both pieces of legislation are pending decisions, so contact your legislators if you are concerned about these issues. Be sure to mention the legislation by name – The Pet Safety and Protection Action (Senate bill 451 and House bill 5229).
